Q: Was Lucifer an Angel?

A: Actually the answer is No he wasn’t.

The Term ‘Lucifer’ was a name conjured from an ancient story relating to the Morning Star, or the light bringer/bearer. Biblically it actually only refers to an ancient Babylonian King who attempted to raise his throne above the heavens and plummets with his empire shortly after the pinnacle of his success. This Babylonian King was referred to as the Morning Star as the journey of the everyday Morningstar quite accurately depicts the journey of this particular Babylonian King as the Morningstar is the brightest star of all but plummets with the dawn.
This is the ONLY biblical reference to Lucifer.
There are many mentions of a Satan, or Satans – but Satan is just the Hebrew word for adversary and can be ( and usually is) used commonly in this context in the Bible and the Book of Enoch.

According to ancient Jewish history, Semjaza was the enemy of God ( who was originally an Angel and eventually lead the Fallen Angels until their defeat in Heaven ). Then the Fallen Angels are lead by Semjaza’s General, “azazel” who eventually becomes the scapegoat of the Grigori ( Or The Watchers, also known as the Fallen Angels) and is made an example of by the Powers. He is bound by his hands, feet and eyes and thrown into a place called Dudael and sealed for all eternity.

Azazel is commonly referred to as the Scapegoat and sometimes the ‘Goat’ which is an ancient symbolic reference which means his powers were revered (as a Goat among sheep – as Angels among men – As Gog among Magog).

All the misconceptions about Lucifer are believed to have originated during the Dark Ages and then elaborately explained in the fictional book ‘Paradise Lost’ written by John Milton, centuries ago apparently using the Book of Enoch as a reference.

The Arc Angels according to the earliest historical & Theological records are:

Michael
Gabriel
Raphael
Raquael
Remiel
Saraqeel
Phanuel

Apparently Uriel was not in this list of seven - however the Book of Enoch refers to Uriel as commanding all, which either refers to all of the Angels - or in context with the passage, all of the portals that control the weather.

Lucifer wasn't part of this list until the Dark Ages, but as there is no recorded history from the Dark ages it is unclear when this mistake was made.

  1. Hi.
I have been doing a study of whether is Lucifer is Satan and I am beginning to come to the same conclusion.
I feel Satan was always Satan and that has never changed. he was the Accuser from the very beginning and a Tempter, maybe that was his job description and maybe he was anointed next to God... For what reason I am not sure. Maybe he did become jealous of mankind and maybe he saw God's love for His creation as a weakness and tried to overthrow Him. I am purely speculating here obviously.
And these stories about Lucifer/Satan's fall I do not know where they come from.

Another theory is Satan was created as the adversary to God from the very beginning...
My theory is God saw that everything was but not "perfect" because His whole creation had free will to choose to serve Him or not. Maybe Satan was created to tempt and accuse all who had free will, to separate the corrupt from the good. He knew His creation could and would choose to go against Him so maybe Satan was created to test them and be king over them.....
